How can I book darshan tickets for Tirumala temple?

What is the dress code for Tirumala temple?

Traditional Indian attire is mandatory. Men should wear dhoti/panche/mundu with uttariyam (upper cloth) or formal pants with shirt (tucked in). Women should wear saree, churidar with dupatta, or half-saree. Shorts, bermudas, torn jeans, sleeveless tops, mini skirts, and tight-fitting clothes are not allowed. Footwear must be removed before entering the temple.

What are the Tirumala temple timings?

The temple is open almost 21 hours daily. It opens at 2:30 AM with Suprabhatam and the first darshan begins around 4:00 AM. There is a brief break from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (Rahala Kalam). The temple closes after Ekantha Seva around 12:30 AM. Timings may vary during festivals.

What is the best time to visit Tirumala temple?

Weekdays (Monday to Thursday) generally have shorter queues. September-October (Brahmotsavam) and December-January (Vaikunta Ekadasi) are the busiest festival periods. The weather is pleasant from October to February. Early morning darshan (before 6 AM) typically has shorter wait times.

How do I reach Tirumala from Tirupati?

You can reach Tirumala from Tirupati by: (1) APSRTC/TTD buses from Tirupati bus stand (runs 24/7, takes about 1 hour), (2) Private taxis or shared autos, (3) Walking up the hill via Srivari Mettu or Alipiri steps (about 3,500+ steps, takes 3-4 hours). The ghat road is well-maintained with multiple checkpoints.

What accommodation options are available at Tirumala?

TTD provides various accommodation options: (1) Free accommodation at Tirumala (limited, first-come-first-served), (2) Paid room booking through TTD website (Rs 100-500 per day), (3) Choultries and cottages, (4) Private hotels in Tirupati town. It is advisable to book TTD accommodation online in advance as rooms fill up quickly.

What is the difference between Sarva Darshan and Special Darshan?

Sarva Darshan is free and does not require advance booking — devotees wait in the queue which can take 2-10+ hours depending on the crowd. Special Darshan (Rs 300) allows faster access through a separate queue, typically taking 1-3 hours. Both provide the same darshan of Lord Venkateswara inside the sanctum.

Can I book sevas online? What are the popular sevas?

Yes, seva tickets can be booked online through the TTD website. Popular sevas include: Suprabhatam (Rs 12,000), Thomala Seva (Rs 12,000), Kalyanotsavam (Rs 12,500), Archana (Rs 150), and Abhishekam (Rs 18,000, Fridays only). Seva slots fill up very quickly, so book well in advance.

Is free food (prasadam) available at Tirumala?

Yes, TTD runs the famous Annaprasadam (free meals) program at Tirumala, serving food to over 50,000-100,000 devotees daily. Meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. The Annaprasadam complex is one of the largest free dining facilities in the world. Special prasadams like Tirupati Laddu can be purchased separately.

How long does the darshan take?

For Sarva Darshan (free), the wait can range from 2-3 hours on weekdays to 10-20+ hours on weekends and festivals. Special Darshan (Rs 300) typically takes 1-3 hours. The actual darshan inside the sanctum lasts only a few seconds as devotees walk past the deity. VIP break darshan is fastest but requires special authorization.

What items are prohibited inside the temple?

Prohibited items include: mobile phones, cameras, electronic devices, bags, purses, leather items, food items, tobacco products, and weapons. Free locker facilities are available near the temple entrance to store your belongings. Only small wallets and devotional items are permitted.

How can I get the famous Tirupati Laddu?

Every devotee who has darshan receives one free laddu. Additional laddus can be purchased (Rs 50 each) at designated counters after darshan. You can buy up to 6 additional laddus per person. During peak times, there may be separate queues for laddu purchase. The laddus are freshly made daily in the temple kitchen.

Is there a hair donation (tonsure) facility at Tirumala?

Yes, the Kalyana Katta (tonsure hall) is located near the temple. Hair offering (tonsure) is a voluntary devotional act performed by many devotees. The facility operates from early morning to late evening. Separate halls are available for men and women. Professional barbers perform the tonsure free of charge. The donated hair is auctioned by TTD.

What should I know about visiting during Brahmotsavam?

Brahmotsavam is the annual 9-day grand festival (September/October). Expect very large crowds (millions of devotees). Accommodation should be booked well in advance. The Garuda Seva on Day 5 is the most popular event. Special darshan arrangements and extended timings are in place during the festival. Plan extra travel time due to heavy traffic.
